How to Get to Milford Sound
Travelling to Milford can be a big and very memorable part of your Milford Sound and Fiordland experience…
You have quite a few options when it comes to getting to Milford Sound. And the option you choose will be an important part of planning your time in Fiordland’s world-renowned natural environment.
- Choose one of many coach options leaving both Te Anau and Queenstown on a daily basis. Relax and enjoy the view with commentary from your driver from the comfort of your seat and stop a number of times for photo opportunities and short hikes on the many day walk options along the Milford Road. You’ll arrive in time to for a midday boat cruise on Milford Sound.
- Drive The Milford Road yourself by car or campervan and set your own pace. You might be amazed at how much there is to see and do on or near the road. Indeed, we recommend allowing a day for your Milford road trip to give you enough time to experience all the road has to offer.
- Fly in by plane or helicopter. If you are really short of time you might want to fly into Milford Sound — you can combine a flight from Queenstown with a cruise and see what Milford Sound has to offer in as little as four hours. Helicopter trips offer the opportunity to see Fiordland’s untouched wilderness up close but either flight option will offer scenery you won’t forget in a hurry.
We think Milford Sound can only be fully experienced if you allow a little more time than some of these travel options.
