General Information

  • Seasonal Work: The main tourist season at Milford Sound Lodge runs from September to the end of May. We operate year round but our staff requirements are reduced between May and October.
  • Live-in with Food: All positions at Milford Sound Lodge are “live-in” with accommodation and a staff kitchen that is completely stocked for self-catering. This is provided by the company on site for a nominal fee.
  • Flexible Hours:Rosters vary depending on the position, but are designed to allow time for employees to enjoy the surrounding wilderness and many activities, or to escape from Milford for a burst of city living.
  • Visa Requirements: We will only accept applications from overseas applicants if they already have a valid transferable work visa.

Reception Team Leader

We are looking for the right candidate to lead and work alongside our First Impressions Team to ensure we continue to uphold our excellent reputation of truly ‘hosting’ our guests. Working at our reception desk, our First Impressions team work as receptionists and are also responsible for helping our guests connect with our incredible wilderness environment.

The Team…

The FIT team is made up of 5 motivated and enthusiastic customer service professionals who are responsible for…

  • Reservations (online, emails, phones, onsite)
  • Information Service (a huge knowledge base of the area)
  • Activity bookings and Sales (cruises, flights, kayaking: we promote and sell them)
  • Nature Guides (evening nature walks, bird watching, star gazing)

The Position…

  • 80% of the role is working alongside the team completing the above day-to-day duties
  • Lead, induct, train, guide and motivate the FIT team
  • Manage and quality control all areas of the reception
  • Manage agent and group reservations
  • Set and meet sales targets
  • Work closely with and support the management team
  • Be the on-call manager for 4 nights a fortnight

Housekeeping Co-ordinator 2IC

We are looking for a Housekeeping Coordinator 2IC to keep things running smoothly during the Housekeeping Coordinator’s days off, support them during their days on and complete day-to-day duties alongside the team.

The Role

The Housekeeping Co-ordinator is responsible for the appearance of all areas of Milford Sound Lodge, ensuring it is maintained to impeccably high standards every day. They do this by managing and delegating to a strong team of highly motivated individuals. The role of the second in-charge is to maintain these standards during the 4 days the Housekeeping Coordinator is off and to support them on a day-to-day basis. Duties include:

  • Cleaning the chalets, maintaining the laundry room, general day-to-day housekeeping duties
  • Assigning duties and setting up the team for the day
  • Helping team members / areas as required
  • Signing off all rooms for check-in, on time
  • Ordering / controlling stock levels

Food & Beverage Manager

The successful candidate will oversee and manage the Cafe food and beverage activities of MSL on a day to day basis as well as assist in maximising the financial and non-financial performance of Milford Sound Lodge and ensure the company remains financially sustainable.

The role

To assist in creating and fostering a culture within the Food & Beverage team that is positive, motivated, clear, inclusive and based on mutual trust and authenticity. The candidate will also help to maintain this culture and work environment into the future, leading to a high performing organisation at all levels of the company. Key general tasks will also include:

  • To distil what it is that makes MSL special (our core value proposition) and ensure we deliver on our promise and our DNA
  • Assist in delivering financial performance to agreed budget.
  • Assist in driving the company to perform at target or better.
  • Play a part in ensuring health and safety and other safety systems are in place and functioning to the highest level.
  • Assist in ensuring an effective and productive team is in place.
  • Deliver service and products that exceeds client expectations in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Identify and focus on the main drivers of business performance (critical success factors).

Specific tasks

Leadership:

  • To ensure positive staff, industry and community relationships.
  • To align all business decisions and activities with the culture, values and governing principles of MSL

Customer Service:

  • To ensure all products are delivered to a consistent standard of customer service
  • To ensure all custumer service activities align with the DNA, Culture and Values of MSL

Human Resources:

  • To participate in the development of the work force plan to agreed levels.
  • To assist in a regular performance management programme for all MSL employees in the organisation.
  • To assist in the training and development programme for all employees.
  • To assist in the recruitment, selection and induction programme of all employees.
  • To assist in the reward and recognition programme for all employees. 

Business Planning:

  • To participate in the development of all annual business plans

Compliance:

  • To assist in ensuring all aspects of voluntary and compulsory compliance are met. This includes but is not exclusive to:

Business Systems (ICT):

  • To assist in the information, communication and technology programme for all business areas of MSL.

Accounting and Business Reporting: To assist in ensuring regular reporting on agreed KPI’s and financial results are submitted to agreed timelines

Project Management: To participate in projects as and when required

Essential requirements:

  • Legally be able to work permanently in NZ in the role
  • Previous experience living and working in a remote location
  • Proven previous experience successful managing teams
  • Previous experience in a Food & Beverage managerial role
  • Current Managers Liquor license

Join our First Impressions Team. Duties include working as a receptionist, being responsible for our Guest First Impressions and for facilitating Guest Connections with our incredible wilderness environment.

Teams & Roles – Lasting Impressions Team

Join our Lasting Impressions Team. In the housekeeping department, be responsible for maintaining our exceptional high standards. For Pio Pio Cafe Front of House, be responsible for providing plenty of infamous ‘kiwi’ hospitality in our onsite café, bar and restaurant.

The LIT team is made up of 10 highly motivated and efficient individuals who have an excellent eye for detail coupled with fantastic customer service skills. As a member of this team you will be responsible for:

  • Cleaning our premium chalets to the expected high standard within the given timeframe
  • Working together with the Housekeeping Co-ordinator to ensure our rooms are perfectly prepared and ready on time, every day
  • Co-ordinate the morning breakfast buffet service; ensuring high standards, communicating with the chefs, the team and the guests
  • Create ‘the best coffee in NZ’ using our barista machine (training provided)
  • Serve the evening a la carte dinner service, table service, bar and till work and jumping in where-ever required during busy times

Join our kitchen team, made up of 4 enthusiastic and hard-working cooks/chefs who deliver a range of fresh, homemade and hearty meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
