General Information

  • Seasonal Work: The main tourist season at Milford Sound Lodge runs from September to the end of May. We operate year round but our staff requirements are reduced between May and October.
  • Live-in with Food: All positions at Milford Sound Lodge are “live-in” with accommodation and a staff kitchen that is completely stocked for self-catering. This is provided by the company on site for a nominal fee.
  • Flexible Hours:Rosters vary depending on the position, but are designed to allow time for employees to enjoy the surrounding wilderness and many activities, or to escape from Milford for a burst of city living.
  • Visa Requirements: We will only accept applications from overseas applicants if they already have a valid transferable work visa.

Hotel Duty Manager

Milford Sound Lodge is looking for an energetic and professional Hotel Duty Manager to be the face of the business, manage and organise the day to day running of the lodge. This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for motivating and monitoring a number of Lodge teams from the housekeepers to the kitchen hands to ensure that they’re meeting the business goals. You will be reporting to the Operations Manager and responsible for developing the business.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver excellent customer service, at all times, ensuring guests’ comfort and safety
Maintain effective communication, at all times, among the team
Provide reports, as required, for hotel management
Always adhere to all company policies and procedures
Deal with customer complaints in a professional manner

Personal requirements:

– In-depth operations knowledge of Front Office, Rooms and Reservations
– in-depth knowledge of Food and Beverage services including POS system, front of house and kitchen management, ordering, stock control, costings, menu planning, food control plan
– Management experience in hotels/serviced apartments/motel
– Team management experience recruitment, training, supervising
– Must be available to work during weekends and public holidays
– Must have excellent communication, accounting and management skills
– The ability to deliver outstanding friendly customer service in every interaction
– Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels
– Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English
– Computer skills including operating systems, hardware networking and management software systems
– Problem solving skills
– Self-motivation, initiative and enthusiasm
– A high level of personal presentation
– Experience and preparedness for remote living

Chef / Cook

We are looking for a team of chefs for our onsite Pio Pio Cafe that offers a la carte breakfast menu and a la carte evening menu as well as a daily fresh and creative lunch cabinet. The right candidates will work alongside the cafe team leader and head chef to ensure we are giving our guests a dining experience true to New Zealand hospitality. Our whole team work together to ensure we continue to uphold our excellent reputation of truly ‘hosting’ our guests.

Our kitchen team is made up of 4 enthusiastic and hard-working cooks/chefs who deliver a range of fresh, homemade and hearty meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Essential

  • Qualifications and/or experience in a kitchen as a cook/chef

Milford Sound Lodge – Lead Host

Hosting up to 200 guests each night Milford Sound Lodge offers a variety of accommodation, guest information and booking services as well as food and beverage through our onsite Pio Pio Café, Bar, Restaurant.

The Role
The Team Leader is responsible for coordinating between team members and management to ensure all duties are carried out efficiently and to the highest standards on a daily basis. Reporting any concerns or problems to the relevant department.

The team leader must be able to carry out all tasks at the lodge including the Pio Pio Cafe and take responsibility for an area as and when required.

Duties may include
– Assigning duties and setting up the team for the day
– Ordering / controlling stock levels
– Helping team members / areas as required
– Signing off all rooms for check-in, on time
– Cleaning the chalets, maintaining the laundry room, general day-to-day housekeeping duties
– Licensed duty manager
– Hosting, Waiting, Barista, Barwork as required
– Working the reception front desk, reservations, sales
– Managing guest complaints
– Reactionary problem solving

General team members

We’re looking for receptionists, housekeepers and front of house restaurant staff to help guests connect with our incredible environment and provide plenty of our famous ‘kiwi’ hospitality.

Receptionists – First Impressions Team

These team members are responsible for reservations, an information service for guests, activity bookings and sales and nature guiding in the evening.

Housekeepers & restaurant Front of House – Lasting Impressions Team

Responsible for cleaning our premium chalets to a high standard, co-ordinating the morning breakfast buffet service, creating the ‘best coffee in NZ’ using our barista machine (training provided) and serving the evening a la carte dinner service.

Essential skills and experience

  • Have a passion for working with people, exceptional customer service skills and the experience to back it up
  • Be confident on a barista machine, creating high-standard coffees in a fast-paced environment (front of house)
  • Have the skills and experience to host up to 200 guests throughout the day, be it breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, wine, beer, table service, on the bar, back of house (front of house)
  • Have some experience as a sommalier and/or a good understanding of wine service (front of house)
  • Fill driver’s licence, duty manager’s license (willing to organise once position is offered)
  • Remote location living experience
