What to do in Milford Sound hike

Milford Sound Road Trip Ideas

There is far too much to see and do along the Milford road to cram it all into one day.

Take your time, stay the night at Milford Sound Lodge and experience some of the many attractions available along the road.

It takes about two hours to cover the distance from Te Anau to Milford sound on the Milford Road. But to make the journey in this minimum time is to miss out on the many opportunities to experience Fiordland’s extraordinary wilderness available along the way.

  • Stop for a while and take one of the many day walks available from the road.
  • Hop out of the car in the Eglinton valley and see if you can spot a rare blue duck
  • If you’ve really got time to burn, park for a while and explore the Routeburn or Hollyford Tracks — you’ll need to book if you want to stay in one of the huts.
